All Creatures Great and Small: Pants for the Leggy and Not-So-Leggy

30 Sep

If there is one thing other than your bra size you should know, it’s your inseam length. The length of your leg from the top of your inner thigh to the ground. Mine, for example, is 33 ½ inches, my sisters measure in at 5’1” tall with a 32” inseam, 5’3” tall with a 27” inseam, and my brother at 6‘2” tall with a 32“ inseam. WOAH! What a range!

What I’m getting at is we all have different inseam lengths. Just in case you haven’t noticed most pants come in one standard length, usually 32” which involves hemming for a lot of people and the inability to wear those pants for the rest of us.

Here are some options for pants in different inseam lengths, but if your favorite brand doesn’t do lengths just pop over to the dry cleaner and ask them to hem them. It will only cost you $5-$10. Some stores will alter for free, depending on the alteration, but make sure you know your inseam length so if the associate measures incorrectly, you know and don’t get a wonky pair of pants back!

Hey there workout dudes!

I know it can be really hard for you to find pants if you don’t have average length legs. Sadly, men’s pants don’t come shorter than a 32” inseam in the activewear world. You need to find a tailor and become buddy-buddy with them…sorry! Don’t be that guy with the too long pants that have ripped at the bottom!

Thirsty Thursday: “Healthy” Alcoholic Beverages

29 Sep

Disclaimer: By “Healthy” I don’t mean the exact definition of healthy, I mean healthier than the alternative. The majority of us drink alcohol and that can ruin any diet plan, exercise plan or just fitness plan in general because most drinks are riddle with sugar.

Please drink responsibly. Over 21 always.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!

Here are a few ways to skip the sugar, sometimes sugar substitutes, and get the same great drinky drinks.

1. Skinny Girl Margarita: The Bethanny Frankel version, which I love because all I have to do is unscrew the cap. Here’s the catch, Bethenny’s margs may say they have 100 calories per 4oz serving, but it contains triple sec. Triple Sec contains 11 grams of carbs per 1 ounce and 10.9 grams of sugar per 1 ounce. Guess what? Carbs turn to sugar, sugar turns to fat. NOT GOOD!

Better Recipe: Order silver tequila, club soda and extra lime. Guess what? Silver Tequila has no sugar, no carbs, no sodium, no gluten, no fats. Miracle liquor? Maybe. My fave? Absolutely. Club Soda: No sugar! No carbs! Limes: Natural Sugar.

If you think this is too hard to drink, ask the bartender to add agave nectar. It’s a natural sweetener so your body can digest it faster.

2. Vodka Tonic: Vodka contains about 70 calories per 1 ounce. So every drink with a traditional 1.5oz shot is going to have about 100 calories, not too shabby until you add the tonic water. Did you know tonic water contains more sugar than Coca-Cola? Yeahhh…let’s rethink that.

Vodka-Water has come back with a vengeance. Obviously, water has 0 calories, 0 sugars. Add some extra lime and you have a tasty lime water!

Vodka Soda: Same situation here. No calories, no sugar. You get that fizz that you are missing in plain water. I find vodka soda hard to drink so I usually stick with vodka water.

3. Spiked Arnold Palmer: This here drank is a staple in The South **said in my finest southern accent**. But there can’t be sweet tea and lemonade without a lot of sugar. Normal Spiked Arnold Palmer is Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka with any lemonade. 8oz of lemonade has 120 calories and 28 grams of sugar. The STV has 68 calories per 1 oz serving and I couldn’t find the sugar content, so let’s lowball at 18 grams per serving. That’s 228 calories per drink PLUS 46 grams of sugar!

Thankfully, Firefly Sweet Team Vodka has come out with Skinny Tea Vodka made with Truvia. Truvia is the name brand version of Stevia, the most natural sugar substitute on the market to date. If you are going to do a sugar substitute, stick with something stevia based. Serve this with half a lemon’s juice and you’re good to go!

When you head out to start your weekend tonight, take a second to think about what you are ordering. Remember! Carbs turn to sugar, sugar turns to fat. Don’t drink your calories and for sure don’t drink empty calories.

Being healthy doesn’t have to ruin your fun, you just have to think a little bit! More drink recipes to come, need to do some market research… 🙂
