How To: Wash Your Workout Gear

27 Sep

**Moment of panic sets in**

There’s another way to wash your workout gear? Not another load of laundry…

RELAX! If you have invested a little more money into your workout wardrobe, your routine doesn’t have to change that much. If not…beware of extra hot water and the dryer. Can we say high waters and belly baring tanks? Not cute.

Your workout clothes should be able to stand the test of time and laundry laziness.

There are some brands who tell you not to wash your workout gear with towels…if you’ve shopped there you know who I’m referencing. That’s a load of….dirty laundry (pun intended).

If your workout clothes shrink, fade, pill (go bally), stretch out, etc. you should return them for quality problems. Any higher end brand shouldn’t do that and any company that doesn’t exchange them or credit you isn’t worth shopping at.

Top Rule for Workout Laundry:

Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets: The way these products work is by working into or on top of the fabrics and altering the fibers. Moisture wicking fabrics have been engineered to be hollow fibers that can dry quickly and suck up moisture. Adding fabric softener or dryer sheets puts a film of sorts on these fibers which takes away their moisture wicking tendencies. This isn’t just for one brand…this goes for all things active from Nike to Lululemon to Stella McCartney.

Honestly, I am SO terrible at doing laundry. I throw everything in at once and pray it all comes out the same colors it went in. Everything I have gotten from Zobha, Rese Activewear, ROGIANI, Splits59, MPG Sport…pretty much all of Atlanta Activewear has lasted me over two years of serious wear and tear.
