From Gym to Street: What’s the easiest way to transition?

2 Nov

Many of us hit the gym or yoga and find ourselves spending the rest of the day in our workout gear, but wearing our sneakers all day isn’t always the cutest thing. What happens if you run into your ex looking like a goofball in your running shoes? Didn’t our mother’s tell us, “Always look your best, you never know who you’re going to meet!” Yours didn’t? Oh, mine did, and it’s something that I live by. Lucky for me I am always wearing my workout makeup, so I always look semi-put together.

If there’s one thing my ex knows, it’s that he will never see me looking bad coming from a workout. Because of that, I always carry an extra pair of shoes. Shoes are the easiest way to transition your workout gear to street wear in under a minute.

You want to choose your street shoes based on the look you are going for and how much coverage you have on top.

Staying in all workout gear, just leggings and a tank? Go for a pair of ballet flats or cute sandals. Embellishment always adds a little oomph and Louboutins are just show stopping…NEVER put on heels.

Wearing a tunic or longer top over leggings? Or it’s cold out and you have on a long coat? Throw on boots or booties! Heels or flats work here. You’ve got your booty covered, so you can wear flashier shoes. I always choose a great riding boot or over the knee boot. If I’m really feeling like a fashionista I’ll throw on a lace up wedge like this one from Steve Madden:

Wearing pants? Stick with driving loafers, like these Tory Burch, or ballet flats no matter what else you are wearing with it, metallic always dresses it up. If you are wearing a VERY skinny flare, you can wrap the flare around your ankle and turn the pant into a legging in order to wear boots.

PLEASE, for the love of all things fashionable stop sticking your wide leg pants into UGGs. Fashion FAUX PAS!

So next time you decide to stay in your workout gear all day, just change your shoes. You never know who you might run into, your ex or the love of your life!

My Top 9 LOVES!

15 Oct

Love is a funny, funny thing. There are a few things I truly do love in my fitness fashion world. Here are my top 9 picks:

1. Leggings: I just freaking love them! I have big thighs and a big bum, so leggings work great for me so I don’t have to battle chaffing. My absolute favorites Zobha Straight Leg Legging and the ROGIANI rolldown 3/4 tight Capri.

2. Yoga Bras: I don’t have the best stomach in the world, but I love to workout in my bra. I only do it in my hot yoga classes because it is unsanitary to be that uncovered at the gym, but I’d like to be able to run in just my bra and leggings one day soon! Favorite: RESE Activewear Eva bra.

3. MPG Trek Jacket: Oh. my. god. You’ve never worn a jacket so amazing as this one. Fitted, fashionable fleece. Longer in the back for some toosh coverage, thumb holes, reflectivity, asymmetrical zipper and only $125!!! Seriously, best investment for winter.

4. Yogitoes: Can’t practice yoga without this glorious moisture wicking towel that doesn’t slide around. Without it I look like a bumbling fool on a yoga mat. Thank you, yogitoes, for saving my yoga practice. Love the new sherbet colors!

5. Tom Ford Sunnies: So glam. Go with everything and occasionally when I’m feeling like a celeb, I stick them on while running. Rickie is my fave.

6. Seamless OSFA Camis: One size fits all is true when it comes to Bordeaux. I love the thick strap tank in the long length. They just did a neon collection, dying for it!!

7. SPANX Activewear: For our “fat days”. Spanx has done it again and made a collection that slims you down instantly. Such great quality and makes you feel like a movie star. I love the Power Capri.

8. Skorts: Oh how I love that I can still look girlie and work out! I’m a skort over short fan any day, the little compression shorts keep chaffing at bay and if you buy the right fit, won’t ride up. My go to is the Brooks PR Mesh Skort.

9. Adidas Originals Sweatsuits: Random? Yes. I love a good oversized sweatpant in great colors. Adidas has mastered the art of mixing colors and still keeping everything cool.

There you have it! My 9 loves of fitness fashion. I could have a list of 50, but I think you’d get bored.
